Chad Chenoweth’s SKRE Review:
Pieces owned: Hardscrabble Pants, Wasatch Crew Top, Mad Trapper Hoodie, Ibex 170 Neck Gaiter, Loden Snapback, Sunrise Mountain T-Shirt
As a Midwest hunter, I was initially undecided on which SKRE items I would use the most from a company that markets and caters to a more western hunting environments. I thought about my seasons, the weather, and my current gear. I chose to situate myself between the early season whitetail hunting from late September to early November, and the gear that would work best during my spring turkey season. I always like to be comfortable and warm. I chose to go with the Hardscrabble Pants, Wasatch Crew Top, Mad Trapper Hoodie, and Ibex 170 Neck Gaiter to start out. When the package arrived, I was immediately impressed as soon as my hands touched the material. This is the softest gear I have by far. I tried on all pieces and the fit was just as described by the scale on the website. My only concern after fit, was durability of such a soft material in environments with heavy brush and thorns. This concern quickly faded as I headed out to the woods for my first few early season whitetail hunts. I caught the pants and top on my tree stand, the “wait a minute vines”, and multiple sticker bushes that were still in bloom. The next test was South Central Texas Hill country. I climbed and snagged over multiple barbed wire fences, nasty brush, and rocks for 4 days, with no tears or faults in the gear. I was comfortable, dry, and had the exact layers I needed to keep me warm when I was a bit chilly, and cool when it crept into the 80 degree afternoons. Now that it’s late season here in Ohio, I have continued to wear my SKRE gear as base and mid layers each time I go out. The comfort and fit are exactly what I was looking for. I have been contemplating daily what my next piece or package of SKRE will be!
